The Name

The prefix ‘great northern’ seems to tag many company names, we’ve used it simply because of its evocation of a time when food goods and freight travelled from all over the world to end its journey in this huge brick warehouse within the city centre of Manchester.

Nick’s family were born and grew up in the shadow of the Great Northern Goods Warehouse and the sounds of Central Station, so the name tries to capture the sense of the exotic and romantic being brought to the damp, industrial north. And the name also gives a little background to our identity as an online business and our own warehouse!
